Power Windows & Locks!!

Probably one of my favorite mods is the addition of power windows and door locks. Its a pretty easy mod, in fact, the wiring probably takes longer than the actual installation of the hardware. I bought the window kit from NPD, and the door locks from Parts Express (part #330-010).

The power windows bolt in to the door in the same places that the original regulators go. Remove the old regulator, and install the new power regulator. The picture above shows the old regulator on the right, and the new power one on the left. You'll need to route wires through the door jam. This was probably the toughest part of the installation, because access to drill the holes is tight. If you plan on adding power windows or locks drill the holes when you have the doors off the body. It will make it much easier. Use rubber grommets on the holes, and cover the wire with split loom.

You've got a few options for window switches. You can buy a switch that your old window crank handle can operate, so the car will still look original. I decided to wire my switches into the center console I made.

You'll need 6 post switches (momentary on - off - momentary on).  Here's how you'll have to wire them.  This setup will reverse the polarity to the power window for up and down motion.

These are the power door actuators. The metal straps come with the actuators, and are used to mount them to the door. I cut each one in half, and mounted the strips to the actuator.

The actuator is then inserted into the door frame, and positioned above the door lock mechanism. You'll need to drill two holes in the door frame - under the vinyl door panel so they're not visible. Then you can mount the actuator. The locks come with an adapter that allows you to mount them to your existing lock rods, so both methods of locking are available (power or manual). I chose to cut my original lock rods, and only go with power. I installed red LED's in the power lock holes that signal when the alarm for the car is armed.
