Hidden Engine Compartment Wiring

Another fun project was cleaning out the engine compartment. First, and foremost, the battery and starter solenoid need to move to the trunk. I positioned my battery between my subwoofer boxes, and put the starter solenoid behind the rear seat. This helped clean it up a bunch. But there was still that ugly wiring harness down the drivers side. So I decided to move that under the fender.

The entire harness was removed from the car, including the plugs at the firewall. The end plugs were cut off, and new wire was spliced in to lengthen it. The new harness was then inserted into 1" PVC conduit purchased from Home Depot. The harness and conduit are shown in the photo to the right. Ninety degree elbows were used to route the conduit under the suspension, and into the cabin near the headlight dimmer switch.
The conduit ends at the radiator support. The wires to the drivers side headlight, turn signal, and horns, and hood pin switch exit the harness here. Another section of conduit runs under the stone guard to deliver the passenger side wires.

The conduit is supported by the standard PVC pipe clamps. After everything was completed, I painted the PVC black to hide it.

After re-routing the wires, the holes in the engine compartment were filled, and the bay was repainted. The project took about a weekend, and I get lots of compliments about how clean the engine bay looks.
