Install Front & Rear Shoulder Belts

Updating a classic Mustang to 3 point belts is great safety feature, and pretty easy to do. I bought the belts from Andover Auto for $65 each.

The forward side of the belt is bolted to the original seat belt hole. Two additional holes are needed for the recoil housing and the shoulder pivot. I reinforced the floor pan under the recoil housing using some 2"x2" steel plates I found at Home Depot for $0.49. They already had a 1/2" hole in the center.

With the shoulder pivot mounted here, the belts would hang slack when fully recoiled.  To remove the slack (as shown in this picture), I cut off about 12" of the belt, and had the end bracket restitched at a local upholstery shop.  They copied the stitch pattern, and added a bit more stitching to be safe.

This is the shoulder pivot reinforcement. It is a 1" x 3" plate that is screwed into the door frame.
The recoil housing for the rear belts is mounted to the rear wheel wells, and reinforced from beneath using the steel plates from Home Depot.
The belts come through the package tray through a raised slot that I made from wood and Bondo. The belts are bolted through the floor pan and reinforced from below using the steel plates.
