Hydraulic Clutch Installation

The 5.0 engine block doesn't have a boss for the early Mustang clutch linkage.  You'll have to swap to a clutch cable setup, or a hydraulic clutch kit.  I originally tried to use a clutch cable setup do the the lower cost.  I fiddled with this setup for about 2 months trying to get something to work well.  I've got JBA headers, and the clearance between the headers and the shock tower is very tight (about 1/2").  The early 90's Mustang cable ran right through this area.  I was able to make a bracket that kept the cable off the headers, but it was just so close that after about 50 miles the cable started binding.  I tried to find a longer or shorter cable that wouldn't go through this area, but didn't have any luck.  So I bit the bullet and bought the JMC hydraulic clutch kit.

The kit includes everything you'll need, including all brackets.  Here's the slave cylinder mounted on the T-5 transmission.  The kit comes with the braided stainless hose that is easy to route away from the headers.

Here's the polished master cylinder mounted beneath the brake master cylinder.  You'll have to drill two holes to mount the master cylinder.  I've still got the single reservoir brake master cylinder that I'll be replacing with a dual reservoir MC when I do front disk brakes soon.

A firewall reinforcement plate is included for the master cylinder.  The pushrod is threaded to allow you to adjust the height of the pedal to match the brake pedal height.

Installation was very easy, and it works great.  I'm very happy with the kit.
